Rules

Select a single patch tile from your hand and sew it into your quilt, then draw another patch into your hand from the three available. If you are able to create a color group, you may sew a button onto your quilt. If you are able to create a pattern combination that is attractive to any of the cats, it will come over and curl up on your quilt! At the end of the game, you score points for buttons, cats, and how well you were able to complete your unique quilt pattern.

Calico is a complex game ! I highly recommend playing the tutorial before your first game .

FAQ :

Cat tokens cannot be scored with shapes containing either pattern and not both
Design goal "=/=" means have none of the same colour or pattern
Colour tokens are always worth 3 points !
Patterns for the shape goals can be rotated in any orientation

Controls

  •     Use the X key to place tiles
  •     Use the Z key to control the camera
  •     Double tap Z to view the patterns

Calico is playable on Mobile ! Be sure to access the pico8 menu and press "swap camera mode" to switch the freecam from a press and hold , to a toggle . This makes the game more comfortable to play on mobile devices !

I really appreciate this game!! I had seen the Calico board game before, but it seemed rather complicated so I had a hard time deciding if it was worth it to purchase or not. But this version allowed me to get the hang of it, and I've been enjoying it!! I think the pixel graphics work well as an alternate design of the game, and I like the mellow music. My only minor complaint would be the size of the game window; it would be nice to be able to see the tiles in hand and the cats' preferences all at once.  Thanks for making this version, it's definitely influenced me to want to buy the physical Calico at some point :)

Thank you for playing the game ! It's really cool that it's got you considering getting the physical version- for one , I totally recommend it ! I totally agree with your criticism , I tried to find a way to make it work in pico but the screen resolution is really a battle at this resolution . The tiles are just about as small as I feel I could get away with , and the "freecam" is my best attempt at remedying the visibility problem .

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment ! <3

If you accidentally hold down X for a bit while picking from the shop the game crashes.

I tried to reproduce this but no 'crash': it simply picks from the market, immediately picks the piece moving on the map area and that's it (at least for me).
What kind of crash exactly? It froze or ended the program on command line?

Damn ! it seems you can never catch them all :(

Unfortunately I can't seem to recreate that , could you please send over a bit more detail :') Thank you <3
